This position is fully remote. Someone in the East Coast Time Zone is preferred.
Our VP Engineering will play a central role on our team going forward, as we reshape our existing technology to fit significant new initiatives we’ll be pursuing. We will be hiring new tech team members, building and managing plans and product delivery process, and delivering new products & services that will bring significant change and energy into the market.
With our core team based in the UK and the US East Coast, a healthy and collaborative remote working environment has been established and fostered. We are building a best of breed team which isn’t hindered by traditional working practices.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the software development team’s activity on a day to day basis.
- Establish a PDLC process, in collaboration with our CTO and Head of Product.
- Oversee software development team members in terms of career development and job performance. Foster a culture of inclusiveness and individual empowerment and creativity.
- Work closely with Head of Product to align software development activity with product direction and market expectation, including contributing to product roadmap work, estimating timelines and resourcing.
- Work closely with our CTO to align software development with technical architecture, and to evolve architecture as needed to align to business direction.
- Advocate for the good health of the technology platform and team over time, balancing considerations such as time to market, workload, and keeping technical debt to a reasonable minimum.
- Contribute where appropriate to coding, testing, or tech ops assets, either as a mentor or as a hands-on accelerator.
- Assist with hiring a new team of software developers and DevOps engineers, approximately 5-8, mixed employee and contractor, globally distributed. And then further growing the team over time.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years’ experience leading software development teams, preferably with significant experience in a SaaS environment, and in a startup environment.
- Good working knowledge of the majority of the following: Java, Python, Postgres, ElasticSearch, ReactJS, AWS, Docker and containerized architectures, API development best practices, test-driven development, scalability considerations, and information security best practices.
- Experience with hiring and scaling teams, with consideration to both skills and team culture, and with particular attention to the dynamics of globally distributed teams and work-from-home.
